Yang Zhan 战洋
I am a cultural anthropologist who was born in Jiangsu, lives in Hong Kong, and feels most at home in Beijing and New York. I am an Assistant Professor of cultural anthropology from the Department of Applied Social Sciences and a managing committee member of the China and Global Development Network at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
I study migrant experiences among the Chinese rural population in the context of fast urbanization, state-led resettlement, and NGO-led social development projects. Through the lens of migration, urban development, and energy development in China, I examine issues related to state formation, labor, and informal economy with a special focus on mobility and temporality.
I am also interested in issues related to development and energy, such as China's wind power projects and their global impact.
